How Skalon Uses the Google Ads API
About Skalon
Skalon is a B2B advertising analytics and optimization platform used by marketing agencies and brands to monitor and improve advertising performance across Google Ads, Meta, TikTok, and Google Analytics 4. Agencies onboard their client brands and manage each brand's performance from a single dashboard, with strict data isolation between brands. Skalon is operated by Karatoprak LLC, a limited liability company registered in Wyoming, United States (30 N Gould St, Sheridan, WY 82801).
What we use the Google Ads API for
Skalon uses the Google Ads API for two purposes — performance reporting and user-approved campaign management. We request Basic Access.
1. Reporting (read access)
Skalon reads performance data from the accounts a user authorizes, using GoogleAdsService.SearchStream with GAQL queries. We retrieve, at the campaign, ad group, ad, keyword, and search-term level:
- Spend (cost), impressions, clicks, CTR, average CPC, conversions, conversion value, CPA, ROAS, and impression share
- Campaign budgets, bidding strategies, and campaign/ad group status
This data powers read-only features inside the Skalon dashboard: account health overviews, anomaly and alert detection, wasted-spend audits, budget pacing monitors, and — for agencies — consolidated reporting across multiple client accounts under a Google Ads manager (MCC) account. No data is changed during reporting.
2. Campaign management (user-approved optimization)
When Skalon's audit engine detects an issue (for example, a campaign exceeding its target CPA, or a budget that is mis-pacing), it surfaces a recommended action. The user reviews it and applies it with a single explicit click, after a confirmation dialog showing the before/after values. Only then does Skalon call the Google Ads API to write the change. Specifically, Skalon performs these mutate operations:
- Adjust a campaign budget — update the daily/shared budget amount (
CampaignBudgetService) - Pause or enable a campaign — change campaign status (
CampaignService) - Update a bid or bidding target — adjust a target CPA/ROAS or bid value on a campaign
Every change is initiated and approved by the user. Skalon never applies changes automatically and never spends on the user's behalf without explicit, per-change approval.
Who uses Skalon
Performance-marketing specialists and agency media buyers who already manage Google Ads accounts. They connect their own accounts to consolidate analysis and optimization in one place.
How accounts are connected
Each user authorizes Skalon through Google's OAuth 2.0 consent flow, granting the https://www.googleapis.com/auth/adwords scope. Skalon accesses only the accounts the user explicitly authorizes — for agencies, this is typically their own Google Ads manager (MCC) account and the client accounts linked under it. We do not create Google Ads accounts, we do not manage account-level access or user permissions, and we do not use the Keyword Planner or any keyword-generation endpoints.
Data handling and privacy
Advertising data retrieved through the Google Ads API is stored in isolated, per-brand databases, accessible only to that brand's authorized users. Data is hosted in the EU (Frankfurt) under Standard Contractual Clauses, in compliance with GDPR and Turkey's KVKK. See our Privacy Policy and Terms.
